Public Speaking and Soft Skills Development

Soft skills are a summation of a cluster of traits such as social graces, communication proficiency, personal habits and friendliness that characterize relationships with other people. Soft skills which are a part of one’s EQ (Emotional Intelligence Quotient) complement hard skills (part of a person’s IQ, Intelligence Quotient), which are the occupational requirements of a job and many other activities. Soft skills are an important part of one’s individual contribution to the success of an organization as well as one’s physical and mental well being. For this reason, soft skills are increasingly sought out by employers in addition to standard qualifications and hard skills.

It has been suggested that in a number of professions, soft skills may be more important over long term than occupational skills. Soft skills are behavioral competencies.
